RESTAURANT MANAGER JOB DESCRIPTION

Established in 2012, AKIRA has been a successful sushi restaurant in Santa Cruz County. Nominated best sushi restaurant in Santa Cruz for many years, we strive to provide not just the freshest seafood and sushi but also the best environment to work at. Our diverse staff is what we build our brand and culture from. Our staff members come from many different backgrounds, with different experience and skillsets. Yet all members work together in a very positive and tight-knit environment.

Our second AKIRA location was established in 2017 in Aptos Village, and has been moving towards a more positive direction despite Covid-19. AKIRA APTOS caters to not just middle- and high-class clienteles here in Aptos, but also to all types of customers coming from Watsonville, Santa Cruz, and even from Hollister. We have a growing number of local followers as well as tourists. Our customers come to us not just because we serve the best sushi, but also because we have a well-trained friendly staff. Our goal is to streamline AKIRA APTOS and turn it into a more structured corporation and a more high-end venue. We are looking for a MANAGER with experience in food & beverages and restaurant industry to help coordinate the FOH and BOH staff to meet the ultimate goals.

JOB DESCRIPTION & RESPONSIBILITIES:

oRecruiting, hiring and training Front-of-House staff, including servers and hosts
oOrganizing FOH staff's weekly schedule
oDeveloping, implementing, and monitoring schedules for the operation of all food and beverage sub-departments to achieve a profitable result
oStreamlining the restaurant's flow to improve the guest experience
oMonitoring FOH labor cost via our scheduling app
oImplementing effective control of food, beverage, and labor costs
oEnforcing food handling regulations and other guidelines to increase guest safety
oOrganize the activities of the Food and Beverage to maintain the highest standards of food and beverage quality, outstanding service and merchandising to maximize guest satisfaction
oAbiding all State, Federal and Corporate requirements pertaining to serving alcoholic beverages
oLeading, directing and managing all FOH and BOH operations including the sushi bar, kitchen, and service staff during business hours
oHandling issues that may arise from all departments including the sushi bar, kitchen, and service staff
oPromoting the restaurant and finding ways to bring in more customers
oHandling customer complaints
oHandling cash register
oIssuing gift cards
oOrganizing staff meeting when necessary
oRelaying important messages and/or issues related to the business to the owners in order to come up with the most optimal solutions
oCommunicating with the owners on a regular basis regarding the business operation
oCommunicating with the staff members on a regular basis regarding the business operation
oRegularly review and evaluate the degree of guest satisfaction of the individual restaurants and banquet service, to recommend new operating and marketing policies whenever declining or constant sales imply dissatisfaction by the customers, a material change in the make-up or the customer market, or a change in the competitive environment

SKILLS REQUIRED:

oAt least 2-3 years of restaurant managing experience
oLeadership to guide and inspire staff
oUnderstanding of how the food service industry works
oStrong organizational skills to keep things running smoothly and effectively
oProblem-solving skills for unexpected circumstances, such as staffing shortages or unhappy customers
oFinancial knowledge to manage the budget effectively and keep the restaurant profitable
oAnalytical skills to interpret reports and make data-driven decisions
oAbility to use basic commands on Microsoft Words and Excel, and basic computer maneuver
oCustomer service and interpersonal skills to create positive relationships
oAbility to stay calm in a fast-paced environment and pressure
oStrong interpersonal skills to handle difficult customers or resolving conflicts between staff members
oPassion to providing excellent customer service, including but not limiting to compassion and empathy
oAbility to delegate tasks, lead by example and inspire employees to work hard

CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

oServSafe Certification up-to-date
oRBS (Responsible Beverage Service) Certification up-to-date

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

o2-3 years of experience in restaurant management
o2-3 years of experience in managing FOH and BOH staff
o2-3 years of experience in Food and Beverage management
oExperience and skills in handling difficult customers as well as employees
oFlexibility in schedules
oMust be open to work lunch shifts, dinner shifts, weekends and certain holidays
oMust be able to pick up extra shifts

COMPENSATION, BENEFITS and MORE:

oStarting at $25/hour to train with our current manager. Wage can be increased depending on past experience, knowledge, skills, and how fast you learn
