Assistant Director, Entertainment Professions

Reporting to the Director of Career Education and Outcomes and ultimately to the Associate Provost for Career and Professional Development, the CPD Specialist (business title: Assistant Director for Entertainment Professions) will provide career coaching to students primarily interested in film and television, media, entertainment, and entertainment business careers. The successful candidate will be charged with developing, supporting, and maintaining high-quality professional programs in Career and Professional Development (CPD).

Position Specific Responsibilities/Accountabilities

Provide one-on-one career coaching to students interested in entertainment careers. Implement workshops, information sessions, employer site visits, and industry panels to introduce students to a wide range of careers within business.

Cultivate and maintain employer relationships within the entertainment industry. Connect with employers and alumni to cultivate experiential opportunities. Promote opportunities to students, faculty, and campus partners.

In partnership with the School of Film and Television (SFTV), coordinate a large-scale signature-networking event for undergraduate and graduate students considering careers in business. Collaborate with Alumni and Family Engagement to identify steering committee members and mentors. Cultivate student interest and provide post-event programming designed to allow students to capitalize on what they learned.

Teach courses related to internship and job preparedness for students focused on entertainment professions.

Manage student Peer Advisors with an interest in supporting entertainment programs and opportunities. Train, mentor and guide Peer Advisors in developing content for workshops, webpages, and event management. Collaborate to host career panels and plan graduate school visits/prep sessions.

Build and maintain relationships with industry partners and LMU graduate business and entertainment programs (Film and Television Production, Writing and Producing for Television, Screen Writing, Business Administration, and Management). Guide students through the application process and help prepare them for interviews.

Maintain membership in relevant organizations within the entertainment fields and participate in regional associations, national conferences, and professional development.

Work closely with campus partners and colleagues to ensure access and equity for marginalized or underrepresented student groups that may need additional support, resources, or referrals.

Serve as an active contributor for the Division of Enrollment Management, Career, and Professional Development, participating in campus-wide events and committees as requested.

Contribute fully to the career services profession; representing the university through involvement in national and regional professional associations, and in strategic partnerships with LMU employers, alumni, parents, and other external stakeholders.

Perform other duties as assigned or requested.

Requisite Qualifications

  • Typically a Master's Degree in counseling, human resources or related field or equivalent experience. Incumbent will be expected to continue upgrading knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to keep abreast of regulation/policy changes.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in higher education, career development, student services, human resources, employer relations, and experiential education. Desired experience working with undergraduate students; familiarity with career development/counseling theories and methods; experience supporting students and team members from diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated experience in business and/or corporate roles preferred accounting, entrepreneurship, finance, marketing, operations, and/or human resources.
  • Exceptional writing and public presentation skills required
  • Enthusiastic team player with solid interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work with faculty, administration, employers, and alumni
  • Event planning and production skills.

Salary range

$60,200.00 - $75,300.00 Salary commensurate with education and experience.
